A woman, booked for attempted culpable homicide after her husband accused her of throwing their two-and-half-year-old child from the staircase in southeast Delhi's Pul Prahladpur area, today claimed she did it in a fit of rage as her in-laws kept troubling her.
She joined the probe and was questioned in connection with the matter while the child was produced before Child Welfare Committee which handed over the custody of child to his maternal uncle, said a senior police officer.
"During questioning, she said her parents in-laws were troubling her and quarrelled with her which is why she threw the child in a fit of rage. The child was wearing layers of clothes and that saved him from sustaining severe injuries," said the officer.
The woman told police that she had issues with her in-laws and she and her husband had shifted out of his parents' house.
She claimed she didn't have any marital issues with her husband and on the day the incident happened, she had come to her in-laws' house who allegedly fought with her, he said.
On January 24, a PCR call was received wherein the man alleged that his child was thrown from the first floor staircase of his house.
Police reached the spot and registered the complaint. The man also told police that he has a video recording of the incident.
The child was medically examined at AIIMS trauma centre and some blunt injuries were found on his face.
