Neelam (30) and her eight-month-old baby Sakshi died of their injuries while the other daughter, Meenakshi (4), is battling for her life after the incident that took place in neighbouring Kanpur Dehat district's Rajpur area last evening, a police spokesperson said today.
Neelam, wife of one Sarvesh, was not allowed by him to attend her cousin brother's marriage function citing financial problems. Upset over the decision, she then locked herself and her two daughters in a room and started the fire.
While Neelam and Sakshi were declared dead on arrival, Meenakshi was badly burnt and is admitted in an ICU.
The police is further investigating the matter and questioning Sarvesh in this connection.
