Police suspect that the attack was the outcome of a property dispute between the victim with her father-in law.
The victim, identified as Saira Khatoon, was sitting on a chair at her shop of woods located at Kamla Vihar in Karawal Nagar area when four persons came on two motorcycles and opened fire at her and fled. She received three bullet wounds in her abdomen.
The workers at the shop immediately informed the police and took her to a nearby government hospital.
The victim's brother Aslam, who also helps in her business, told police that Khatoon has a property dispute with her father-in-law who used to threaten her with dire consequences if she did not give the property. He also told police that she had sought security cover from police.
Police are now investigating on this line.
Khatoon's condition, police said, was critical. Her husband expired a few years ago and she has four children.
