A 35-year-old sanitary worker today died after allegedly getting trapped in sludge while manually cleaning sewage in the temple town here, police said.
Sathyamurthy was removing blockages in the sewage by entering the man-hole when he got trapped in the sludge. Later the body was retrieved, they said.
The Madras High Court and other courts across the country have already enforced a ban on manual cleaning of sewage drains.
Sanitary workers picketed the road protesting against engaging them to enter into man-holes to clear blocks by municipal officials.
