Workshop on disaster management

The Indian Institute of
Management, Calcutta will organise a two-day workshop on disaster nanagement, starting from Saturday next.
The workshop, being held in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur and Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata intends to bring together researchers and practitioners from academia, government and industry in areas related to disaster management.
This will be in order to gain experience and insight into the challenges that such environments pose for the people.
Participants across the country and abroad will participate and present their work in the workshop, which will be inaugurated by the West Bengal Department of Disaster Management Principal Secretary, S Suresh Kumar.
The workshop on "Distributed Systems for Coordinated Disaster Management" (CORDIM) is organised as a part of the government-funded multi-institutional project called "Post Disaster Situation Analysis and Resource Management using Delay Tolerant Peer-to-Peer Wireless Networks (DiSARM)".
The DiSARM, explores the innovative use of mobile technologies in disaster management, along with societal aspects of technology adoption for improving disaster preparedness.
Two years back, the Information Technology Research Academy (ITRA), an organ of Media Lab Asia of the Central government awarded a few major projects to some key groups of institutions within the country with the broad goals of improving infrastructure in communication, water resources, health, transportation etc.
