Wrestling Federation of India to conduct trials

Wrestling Federation of India's selection committee will conduct trials for the men's team on Tuesday in preparation for the Senior World Championship, the first Rio Olympics qualifying event, to be held in Las Vegas from September 7-14.
The selection committee will meet at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium to witness trials for the team that will represent the country in the World Championships.
Top wrestlers, including Olympic medallist Yogeshwar Dutt, Olympian Narsingh Pancham Yadav, Commonwealth Games medallists Amit Kumar and Satywart Kadian, Asian Games medallist Mausam Khatri, Sandeep Tomar and Sandeep Tulsi Yadav will compete for selection.
Two-time Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar will not take part in the trails owing to a shoulder injury. Commonwealth Games medallist Bajrang (61kg) will also not participate in the trials due to an injury.
On receiving a request from Bajrang stating his inability to attend the trials and consider his past performances, the selection committee has decided that the finalist of his weight category will only be selected for Kazakhstan competition which will be held before the World Championship from July 23-26.
The finalist will attend trials with Bajrang to book berth for the World Championship and date of the trial will be intimated later.
The World Wrestling Championship will be the first chance for Indian grapplers to book berth for next year's Rio Olympic Games.
The selection committee will comprise of WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, secretary general V N Prasad, vice- president RK Hooda, treasurer Bhola Nath Singh, joint secretary Darshan Lal, executive member Jai Prakash.
Besides, chief coach Kuldeep Singh, foreign expert Vladimer Mestvirishvili, in-charge coach Mahabir Prasad and foreign expert Emzar Makharadze will also be present to select the free-style and greeco-roman style team.
