Assistant police inspector S B Kothmire of the Kalwa police station told PTI today that the constable Tippu Sultan Balekhan Mullah attached to the Thane police commissionerate headquarters was a resident of Kalwa.
He is survived by his widowed mother and three sisters in Kalwa's Manisha Nagar locality.
On Wednesday night, he doused himself with petrol near Janki Nagar at Kalwa and set himself on fire, reportedly in a bid to scare the girl, but it boomranged onm him.
He was admitted in a badly burnt condition to a hospital in Navi Mumbai where he died today afternoon, the Kalwa police said.
Further investigations are on, the police said.
