Young and promising talents should be given their due recognition, the spotlight should not be trained only on established stars, actor Prosenjit Chatterjee has said.
He also pointed out that he has been backing budding actors and directors, as they happen to be "the future of the industry".
"The young and upcoming actors, who show a lot of promise, should be brought to the spotlight and given due recognition. I have taken up their projects, acted in them if I liked the script," the national award-winning actor said Monday at a press meet of West Bengal Film Journalists' Association (WBFJA).
With the right kind of grooming, the budding stars can work wonders for the industry, he said, adding that the association has introduced new categories in its upcoming award function to encourage them.
Ace director Buddhadeb Dasgupta will be honoured with Lifetime Achievement Award at the function on January 13.
Chiranjeet Chakraborty, another veteran actor who was present at the press meet, said formula-driven films should also be included in award categories, enabling the cast and the production team to share the limelight.
"While my role in 'Chotuskone' (by Srijit Mukherjee) is being talked about, my previous roles in films like 'Beder Meye Jyotsna', 'Knecho Khurte Keute' made me popular among countless fans. Hence popular mainstream cinemas should also be equally appreciated," he asserted.
