The incident happened yesterday in a Shiva temple at Muradpura village here, and the victim was seriously injured when she tried to resist the rape bid, they said.
"The accused Balu entered the temple and allegedly tried to rape the woman who was injured seriously when she tried to resist him," SP Rural Alok Priyadarshi said.
When some locals reached the temple, they caught hold of the accused, beat him up and later handed him over to the police.
