Police claimed that an SHO sustained an injury under his eye during the clashes even as Congress leaders made allegations of high-handedness against the law and order personnel.
A Youth Congress leader was apprehended following the protest and police said that a case was registered against him and fellow protesters for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of duty.
According to Congress leader Sanjay Sehgal, a group of Youth Congress workers led by their leader Paramjit Bal had organised the protest against the civic body over what it claimed was the rising cases of dengue in Jalandhar and other issues.
Sehgal on the other hand alleged that it was police which had "resorted to a lathicharge on peaceful protesters".
