Youth drowns during Ganesh idol immersion

A youth drowned in a lake here while immersing the idol of Lord Ganesh.
Vishal Vithobha Rane (28) drowned while immersing the idol during the culmination of ten-day long Ganesh festival at a lake in Diva-Dativali last night, Thane Municipal Corporation's Regional Disaster Management Control (RDMC) official Santosh Kadam said today.
Firemen from the nearby Mumbra fire station and RDMC personnel rushed to the lake and later fished out the body which was sent for postmortem, he said, adding that Rane was a resident of Mumbra township in Thane district.
The immersion rituals at various places in Thane ended early this morning.
