A youth was injured after he allegedly jumped from a second floor window of Ambedkar Nagar police station here while being questioned in connection with a mobile theft case, police said today.
The 26-year old youth, identified as Pankaj Goel allegedly jumping from the window and first hit a tree and then got stuck in wires, which reduced the impact of his fall. He was admitted in AIIMS Trauma Centre with severe injuries on his back and spine, said a police officer.
The incident took place around 9.30 PM last night and it is suspected that Goel tried to commit suicide fearing arrest in connection with the case, police said.
"Two constables were suspended after the incident for dereliction of duty and departmental inquiry has been initiated against them," DCP (Southeast) M S Randhawa said.
In his statement, Goel told police that last evening he received a call from someone who offered him a second-hand cell phone at a reasonable price and asked him to come near the Ambedkar Nagar police station.
When he reached there, constables Raj Kumar and Sonu allegedly took him to the second floor of the police station and started questioning him in connection with the theft of a mobile phone. After some time they left Goel alone in a room for dinner, when he allegedly jumped out of the window, said a police officer.
