Youth stabbed by extortionists

Days after the Bamungachhi incident where a youth was stabbed to death, a man was seriously injured at Lake Town area in the fringes of the city.
Two persons, all stated to be bottlegers, were arrested in connection with the knife attack on the local man who reportedly protested their extortion activities in the area, falling in North 24 Parganas district.
Police said both Arshad and Javed were picked up on receipt of the complaint. The victim had to be hospitalised with injuries on feet and hands.
The two sides were involved in a brawl on January 26 also and police did not rule out past enmity.

The incident came close on the heels of the brutal murder of a youth who protested against gambling and drinking in the open in Bamungachi area of the district which witnessed a spurt in crime in recent past.
