Zinc prices fell by 0.82 per cent to Rs 151.80 per kg in futures trading today as participants cut down their bets, driven by a fall in demand from consuming industries at domestic spot market amid weak global cues.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, zinc for delivery in September month declined by Rs 1.25, or 0.82 per cent to Rs 151.80 per kg in business turnover of 865 lots.
Likewise, the metal for delivery in October contracts traded lower by Rs 1.25, or 0.81 per cent to Rs 152.40 per kg in 21 lots.
Traders said trimming of positions by traders due to subdued demand from consuming in the spot market and slump in commodities, including base metals overseas on renewed speculation about a possible US rate hike, weighed on zinc prices at futures trade here.
