Quirky bat tales
During the 2010 season of the Indian Premier League, Australia’s Matthew Hayden introduced the world to the mongoose, a long-handed, short-bladed bat that came with a larger sweet spot. This wasn’t the first time a batsman had walked out with a quirky piece of willow. In 1979 at Perth, Dennis Lillee walked out to the middle with an aluminum bat in hand, but the mongoose clearly stood out for its strange design.
