From the stables of TVS Suzuki comes this 110 CC 14 bhp machine that redefined power in the 100 CC class when launched. An almost sinister looking bike in black; almost because its looks are marred by the ludicurous pink decals; this bike comes replete with a megaphonic muffler that puts a purposeful growl into the otherwise tinny silencer beat of all its siblings. The bike uses the same body panls as the Samurai and the Shaolin, and additionally sports a bikini fairing that encloses the headlamp and the comprehensive two-dial instrument cluster. For the first time in India when introduced, the Shogun also sported an electronic tachometer. The silencer is finished in unique black-chrome, but is sadly let down by all the brightwork on the handlebars, the wheel rims and elsewhere. This bike is a pleasure to ride, but is pone to rattles and squeaks after a period of use. The engine is its forte and was developed in tandem with a series of two-stroke screamers that TVS made for its racing exploits at Sriperumbudur. Racing improves the breed and the Shogun is a classic case. Also improved is the chassis design with additional reinforcements built in. Combined with refined power delivery, it offers the same rugged reliability of the basic powerplant in the Max 100 series and the Samurai. This bike sacrifices fuel economy for power, and offers around 40 kpl in city conditions.
