Compaq India yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Electronics Research & Development Centre of India to jointly invest in developing Web-based solutions for e-governance.
Under the agreement, a competence centre will be established in Noida to facilitate e-governance in the industrial township.
The MoU was signed by the Noida executive director of ER&DCI, R K Verma, and Compaq India managing director Balu Doraisamy here yesterday. ER&DCI is an autonomous scientific society under the IT ministry.

"This is a pilot e-governance administration project for district Gatam Budh Nagar and is aimed at creating interface between citizens government public utilities and other information providers," Verma told reporters, adding that all interface will be in common people's language.
He also said 25 kiosks will be put up at convenient locations across the district and depending on the success of the experiment, more will be set up across the state like STD facilities.
The kiosks are expected to serve the dual purpose of facilitating accessibility to the common man in keeping with the aim of bringing IT to every walk of life.
