Downward Revision Of Power Generation Target Likely

The government is considering a downward revision of its target of adding 100,000 MW of additional generation capacity by 2012.

Power minister Suresh Prabhu told reporters on the sidelines of a function to commemorate the silver jubilee of the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) that he has asked for a review of the target.

The power minister said that his ministry would conduct a study to estimate the actual demand for power in the next 10 to 12 years based on the achievability factor.
