Godrej-GE Appliances yesterday said it is all set to become the countrys first appliance company to indigenously manufacture chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) -free refrigerators.
The company said it will use cyclopentane for foam as a substitute for CFC 11.
The manufacturing will take place at its Vikhroli facilities on the outskirts of Mumbai. All the tests under the phase-1 programme have been successfully completed
The changeover venture has been taken up under the ECOFRIG jointly launched by the union ministry of environment and forests and the governments of Germany and Switzerland. The project aims at introducing environment-friendly gases and materials for refrigeration. Godrej-GE Appliances was one among the two Indian companies selected for the purpose.
