Goedicke (India) Pvt Ltd, an offshoot of Goedicke, Germany, and one of the leading German companies trading in used machine tools and complete production plants, feels business prospects are bright in the ongoing Imtex 98/Tooltech 98 here with over 250 inquiries pouring in.

With an experience that dates back to three decades in worldwide export, Goedicke has offices in Beijing and Bangalore.

Goedicke has been operating in India only since the last two years. But, it claims to have a fairly good market for its machine tools shipped to India. These machine tools, manufactured by various European and US manufacturers, are taken over by Goedicke and reconditioned for re-use.

A chartered engineer commissioned either by the company or its customer determines the accuracy of the machine and then the pricing is determined. All machine tools that are sold by Goedicke, have a guarantee on their durability.

Sold mostly to the machine tool and the automobile sector in India, Goedickes machines cost less than 50 per cent of the original cost of the new machines. Understandably, the user opts for the second-hand machine which works out to be much cheaper and yet retains the desired accuracy and durability.

Besides, the delivery time taken by Goedicke is about 2 months, whereas to procure a new machine the buyer has to wait for about 2 years.

However, the recent recession in the domestic market saw a slump in sales of machine tools, including second-hand machines. Since Goedicke prefers shipping its machine tools in batches of sixties or seventies, it becomes imperative for the company to obtain a smooth customs passage and get customers having sponsorship.

Until recently, Sidbi and SFC, which sponsored customers relatively easily, have begun tightening their purse strings in view of the dismal money market.

Goedicke is poised to become one of the major exporters of used machine tools with both advanced and conventional technology form the West.

Meanwhile, at a ceremony on Saturday, the FIE award given for best quality, design and aesthetic appearance of products was presented to 10 leading Indian manufacturers of machine tools.

HMT bagged the award for its HMC Horizontal Machining Centre (H5//22), a cost effective machine that finds its application in both small/medium and large-scale industries.
