Tobacco-to-hotels major ITC, which recently made a foray into the sports goods has appointed Jaipur-based designer Arun Pabuwal to design the Wills International Cup.
The cup is being designed for the cricket tournament sponsored by the company to be held at Dhaka between October 24 and November 1. Pabuwal will also design eight man-of-the-match trophies. ITC further plans two nationwide contests and three ad films to build up cricket frenzy as a run up to the event.
The first contest is `Knock Them Out'. Cricket lovers will have to predict the winners, the finalists and the semi-finalists and suggest a slogan. The second one is called `Pick your dream team', where one has to choose 11 players with at least one player from each participating country and also suggest a slogan.
The cup will be designed around the championship theme, `One World, One Game'. The design is expected to be finalised soon, and will be unveiled in India before being transported to Dhaka.
The design for the man-of-the-match trophies is already through. The glittering trophies in gold and silver have been fashioned around the battle between the ball and the bat and give equal emphasis to both skills. Pabuwal has also designed prizes for the Reliance World Cup, Gold Flake Open Tennis Championship and innumerable trophies for Wills.
The Wills International Cup is the first ever one-day international championship in the history of cricket to be played with a unique knockout rule. Under this rule, a team that loses a match has no second chance to stay on in the race.
