Ministers Meet Today On Divestment

The government is looking to go below the 50 per cent threshold in its holdings in public sector undertakings picked for strategic sale. The group of ministers that will meet here today to set out the disinvestment strategy for 1998-99 is expected to deliberate on the issue. Among other things, the sub-committee will spell out a time-table for privatisation and decide if the proceeds should be used to finance the Centre's fiscal deficit.
