Private power generating firms will meet later this month to discuss a new roadmap to expedite capacity addition in the sector.

"Power sector issues ranging from fuel shortages to banks' rising non-performing assets and lack of financial accountability on the part of state governments towards discoms, etc will be discussed at the Policymakers and Regulators Retreat this month," Independent Power Producers Association of India said in a statement.

IPPAI is the organiser of the event. Eminent experts from the sector, including company CEOs, former bureaucrats are expected to attend the conference which will be held in Goa from July 31-August 4.

Policy and regulatory leg-up needed to expedite generation capacity addition, based on clean energy sources like hydro and renewable power, and to unleash the potential of waste heat-to-power will also be discussed in the upcoming conference, IPPAI said.

International case studies will also be examined critically to get insights into likely implementation problems and their solutions, it added.

"Possible strategies to drive technological innovation for meeting the growth needs of the power sector in the coming years will also be debated. New opportunities opening up for investors in the wind and solar power sector will be looked into," the statement said.
