Reliance Industries Ltds Hazira cracker has achieved a landmark of producing its first one million tonne of ethylene and propylene. It was a year ago that RIL commissioned its multifeed grassroot ethylene plant at Hazira. The plant after commissioning, achieved its rated capacity and ran successfully throughout the year. The first ethylene production in India from a steam cracker took place in early 1960s when union carbide commissioned its Chembur plant. This was followed by Nocils cracker at thane in late 1960s. In 1978, IPCL had commissioned the third 1.3 lakh tonne ethylene cracker at Baroda.
