Return of the goddess

Pujo in Kolkata is an occasion like no other. The distinct aroma of dhuno, the heartwarming beat of dhaaks interspersed with the melodious strains of agomoni, traditional songs welcoming the Durga, fill the air.

"Debi - Soul of Kolkata" is an online photography contest that aims to capture moments that celebrate the city in its resplendent glory during the homecoming of the goddess. The contest is being held across three categories: "Agomoni", the making of Durga and preparing for her arrival; "Utsav", the celebration of life, including rituals; and "Bisarjan", farewell and the immersion. The contest is supported by social media groups, Streets of Calcutta and Calcutta Instagrammers. The entries are collected on social media platforms, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram on ITC hotels pages. Here is a selection of images from the city as it celebrates Durga Puja.
