Shares Recover Marginally On Speculative Buying

BSE REPORT

Equities on the Bombay Stock Exchange recovered marginally on speculative purchases towards the end of the trading session. The Sensex closes at 3759.64, up 18.42 points over the previous close of 3741.22. The Sensex opened at 3742.10, touched an intra-day high of 3769.43, fell to a low of 3738.71, before recovering to close at 3769.64. The bourse recorded a turnover of 593.97 crore.

The ITC scrip continued shine for the second day gaining Rs 20.75 over the previous close to end at Rs 442. Tata fared well with Telco and Tata Tea being among the major gainers. Tata Tea gained Rs 20.75 to close at Rs 294.50, Telco closed at Rs 393.25(+Rs 13.25), Tisco at Rs 176.50(+Rs 3.50) Tata Power at Rs 136(+Rs 2.50) and Tata Infotech, which was frozen at Rs 726.50, gained Rs 66.

In the B1 group, select sugar scrips gained following newspaper reports of government removing sugar from the public distribution system. Balrampur Chini gained Rs 2 to end the day at Rs 108, Dhampur Sugar moved up by Rs 2 to close at Rs 78.25, while Prudent Sugar at Rs 22 went up Rs 3 over the previous close. Thiru Arooran, however, lost marginally to close at Rs 95.50, down 60 paise.

Among the other B1 scrips, Exide Industries moved up by Rs 12 to end the day at Rs 191.25, Coates Viyella gained Rs 8.50 (close: Rs 93.75) and Modi Xerox gained Rs 7.75 (close: Rs 177.75).

Among the major losers in the same group were Ingersoll Rand at Rs 338.25 (-Rs 16.75) and Hoechst Marrion at Rs 387.50 (- Rs 25.50).

The total turnover on the screen based trading BOLT system amounted to Rs 593.97 crore, comprising of Rs 539.830 crore from a group, Rs 47.83 crore from B1 group, Rs 6.05 crore from B2 group and 0.26 crore from F1 group.
