Equities and finance portal ShareKhan.com has launched Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) enabled equities website a site that can be accessed from mobile phone.

The site's WAP ready service allows online connectivity to mobile users and will bring to the users real-time stock market updates, sensex/Nifty figures, live stock quotes from NSE/BSE and investment ideas on the phone.

To mark the launch of its WAP ready service, Sharekhan.com is running the "Win A Phone" contest on the site for 30 days starting May 12. People who visit the site can win WAP enabled mobile phones by visiting the site and answering a few questions.

"WAP is the revolutionary new age tool for the young entrepreneur providing easy accessibility to the Internet from anywhere. It will completely change the way people think, work and trade," said Dhiraj Aggarwal, chief executive officer, Sharekhan.com

WAP Technology lets access to a Web by individuals having a WAP enabled device. The user will have to subscribe to a mobile phone service that offers Data Services. In addition, to having data services subscription, one needs to maintain an account with any ISP.

Currently, Nokia 7,110 and Ericsson R-380 are among the WAP enabled pphones available in India. The WAP based service is different from SMS. The SMS facility is not interactive - one can not sell or buy equities. The sites that can be accessed through this service have to be WAP enabled, preferably certified by the Wapforum - an international consortium of companies promoting WAP technology.
