Hockey World Cup, Quarterfinals Summary

 

It was yet another evening of exciting hockey at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneshwar, Odisha. Germany, after being 0-2 down for the first 56 minutes of the game, came back brilliantly to make it 2-2 at the end of the match and then beat England 4-3 in Shoot-Out to march to the semi-final. 

 

In the second game of the evening, the Netherlands turned out to be too good for the Koreans who had upset Argentina in their last game. The Dutch won 5-1 to make it to yet another semi-final of a World Cup. The four semi-finalists of the tournament as predicted beforehand by many pundits are Australia, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands.

Phil Ropher has kept England in the game thanks to a brilliant finish from an outside angle and with a reverse stick 

 

Christopher Ruhr, who missed the penalty stroke, comes to take the shot and his first shot is saved and he scores on the rebound

 

Liam Ansell comes into take the shot to keep England in the hunt and he has missed. Germany have won a game and a half here. This is one of the best comebacks you will ever see in sporting history.

In the fourth quarterfinal, the Netherlands, who topped their group and were the only team in the entire World Cup to win all their group-stage games, will be up against Korea, who finished third in their group. 

 

Korea surprised all by beating Argentina in the crossovers. The regulation time finished at 5-5 with the Koreans coming back from being 3-5 down to level the game in the last quarter. In the Shoot-out, the Argentines were blanked 3-2.
