The Dutch lead the Belgians in shots on goal 5 to 1 and in circle penetrations 10 to 5. In terms of penalty corners too, the Netherlands have had two while Belgium have had only one. It is one each as far as goals are concerned and Belgium have had 57% possession in the opposition half, while the Dutch have had only 43.

Australia vs Germany Semifinal, Hockey World Cup: Germany won the big game, who will be next?

 

With just under a minute to go and he scored tied 3-3, Niklas Wellen scored for Germany to win them the game and take them to the World Cup final. Australia led in the first half 2-0 and then Germany made a comeback in the second one to get back to 2-2 thanks to Gonzalo Peillat’s two penalty corner goals. Blake Govers got the Aussies ahead in the 57th minute thanks to PC conversion again. 

 

It seemed like a winner at that time. But Germany’s ‘never say die’ attitude so far has got them as far as here and they kept up with that attitude as they got a PC in the 58th minute and Peillat converted it once again to get a hat-trick. But it was Niklas Wellen who changed it all as he scored a field goal in the 60th minute. Germany won the game 4-3 in the end. 

 

In the next game, two European giants, Netherlands and Belgium would be up against each other.

While the Dutch have had a smooth show throughout, losing to none, and not even knowing what pressure is, the Belgians fought hard against the Germans at the Group stage and were pushed hard by the Kiwis in the semi-final as well. 

 

It will be interesting to see which team gets through to the final. The last edition’s finalists will no more compete in the final anymore.
