IND vs AUS 4th Test, Day 5 Live Score: Even after a draw, India retain series, make it to WTC Final

 

Australia managed to survive a whole day and literally did not give any chance to India to try and get the visitors all out and display some Bazball-style of play. However, even after a draw in this game, the Indian team managed to get to the final of the World Test Championships thanks to New Zealand's victory over Sri Lanka in yet another enthralling display of Test cricket where the hosts won on the last ball. 

 

Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne headlined the last day of play in the Ahmedabad Test, with the former making 90 and the latter 63*, recording his first fifty on the tour. India could pick up only two wickets, the first of Matthew Kuhnemann and the second of Head. The first was taken by Ashwin while the second one was by Axar Patel. 

 

Earlier, Australia, after winning the toss made full utilisation of a dull wicket, scoring 480 in the first innings. Usman Khawaja scored 180 while Cameron Green also got a Test century to his name. India followed it up by making 571. Virat Kohli scored a brilliant 186 and was the last man to fall. Shubman Gill got yet another Test 100 to his name as well to give India 91 run first innings lead. 

 

India managed to retain the Border Gavaskar Trophy as it won the series 2-1.

Only 12 overs were bowled post Tea and even in that period, India could get the Australian batters to make any mistakes. Even Cheteshwar Pujara and Shubman Gill were thrown the ball to dart a few in. Eventually, the two captains, Rohit Sharma and Steve Smith shook hands and accepted the result of the game as a draw. 

 

Courtesy of this draw, India retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with a 2-1 victory.

Axar got the wicket of Travis Head, who was looking to play an expensive drive and the ball went through his bat and pad.

India are almost sure to go through to the World Test Championship final thanks to some scintillating display of batting by Kane Williamson and Daryl Mitchell. The two added 142 for the fourth wicket and dismantled any chances of Sri Lanka winning and causing problems to India. Now, the Kiwis need 32 runs in the remaining four overs of Day 5 with five wickets in hand.

Given the condition of the wicket, there doesn’t seem any doubt that it would take a lot of effort on the part of the Indian team to get the nine wickets and then chase down whatever the target that the Aussies set for them in the remaining two sessions.
