The move is in keeping with the company's decision to service all platforms after drawing flak from users for shutting down its mobile website.
For the first time, the Flipkart app will work on PCs, giving users the superior experience of using an app rather than the website. Desktop users will also be eligible to app-only offers on Flipkart's marketplace, which to certain extent will address qualms of disgruntled users.
In November, Flipkart reintroduced its mobile website dubbed 'Flipkart Lite' which utilised features of Google's Chrome browser to bridge some of the gaps between the app and web experience. The move was seen as a roll back of the company's tactic of forcing users to install its app on their smartphones.
"At Flipkart, we strive to innovate and re-invent the customer experience at every touch-point. Over the last few months, we have been working on the Windows 10 platform to create richer and more personalized experience for our consumers," said Amar Nagaram, director of mobile engineering at Flipkart, in a statement.
"Apart from the added convenience and enhanced experience, consumers will also get access to app-only offers and in-app notifications that will keep them updated on the latest deals and discounts," said Harish Vaidyanathan, Director of Independent Software Vendor Programs at Microsoft.
Microsoft launched Windows 10 in July 2015 amid much fanfare as being the most forward looking version of the legendary OS in many years. The company offered the software to users of Windows 7 and Windows 8 for free, but despite this analysts see the uptake has been quite slow.
