Micromax's subsidiary YU Televentures made quite a buzz in the mid-range smartphone segment with their first product, the Yureka. A 5.5-inch screen with impressive specifications ensured that users took notice. And now the company is back with a bang. (Yes! We can afford to say so.) The dual-sim 4G-enabled YU Yuphoria will go on sale on May 28 and registrations for it started at 5 p m on May 11. We got a chance to review the device before it hits the market.

Design & display
The metallic frame of YU Yuphoria ensures that the device does not look cheap, despite the removable plastic rear. It's sleek and sturdy. Single-hand usage will not be a problem on this. On the back, you will find the chunky eight-megapixel (-MP) camera that has metallic rings on the edge. At the base rest the speakers and the YU branding. The device boasts a 5-inch HD display with a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Viewing angles are good and colour reproduction is vibrant.

Performance
The YU Yuphoria comes with a Snapdragon 410 64-bit 1.2GHz quad-core processor along with the Adreno 306 graphics processor. It runs on the CyanogenMod 12 skin atop the Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system. The CyanogenMod 12 skin maintains the Android 5.0's Material Design language.

Aided by 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage, the smartphone manages to run most of the apps smoothly. You may expand the storage up to 128GB with a microSD card.

The 8MP camera clicked crisp images even in poor light. For the selfie lovers, the 5MP camera takes good snaps. The wide-angle aspect ratio is a bonus. The YU Yuphoria houses a removable 2,230mAh battery, which lasted about 10 hours on normal usage.

Verdict
At Rs 6,999, the YU Yuphoria is certainly worth considering. It will compete against the likes of the Redmi 2 and Lenovo A6000, both in the same range. But with better specifications and a metal frame, the YU Yuphoria is a clear winner.
