Don't want to miss the best from Business Standard?

After much anticipation, Google's Gboard is fnally available to iOS users in India. Let's try to understand what the fuss is all about.

Gboard is a keyboard app from Google that can be downloaded for free from the App Store. The installation is a simple process and takes less than a few minutes to get your hands - pun intended - on the Gboard.

Do remember to give it full access before you start using it. Of course, this means all your information is accessible to Google - but that you already know. The app was first launched in the US in May, and as of now supports only the English language. Surprisingly, the Gboard isn't available on Android yet.

No more tap tap
Simply put, the Gboard is an excellent addition to the iPhone.

The key to any good keyboard obviously lies in the typing experience. Gesture typing, with apps like Swype, worked like a charm on Android devices. There were apps such as SwiftKey for Apple, but somehow they weren't responsive enough. Gboard plugs that gap on the iPhone efficiently and is a real treat. iPhone 6 Plus users will certainly welcome this feature.

It's responsive and throw in the predictive search feature and typing never seemed this easy before. For instance, if you want to text your husband or wife "want to eat pizza tonight", the predictive search will ask you if you want to know the pizza places nearby.

Search and more
One of the best features of the Gboard is that it allows you to Google search anytime, anywhere. For instance, you're using WhatsApp and talking about Brexit, you can just tap the Google Search icon on the top of the keyboard without leaving the chat.

Gboard also suggests emojis during conversations. If you're talking about a party, then a party emoji will pop up for your convenience. For those who love their GIFs, Gboard ensures that you can search for gifs directly from your keyboard.

The Gboard combines functionality and fun flawlessly. It offers a great experience and unlike other third-party keyboards on iOS, which I end up deleting in a day.

The Gboard looks like its here to stay. A bit ironic but the power of Google just gave Apple a big boost.
