The Indian Government will reportedly shell out 6.4 billion dollars on IT products and services in 2014, marking an increase of 4.3% over 2013, research firm Gartner said.

The research firm has also included spendings on internal IT, hardware, software, external IT services and telecommunications by state, regional as well as central government agencies in its forecast.

Anurag Gupta, research director at Gartner said that IT services, which include consulting, implementation, IT outsourcing and business process outsourcing, will be the largest overall spending category throughout the forecast period within the government sector, Enterprise Innovation reported.

Gupta further said that IT services are expected to grow 3.8% in 2013 to reach $1.46 billion USD in 2014, up from $1.37 billion in 2013 - with the business process outsourcing segment growing 16.3% in 2014.

According to Gartner, e-government projects and citizen participation aided by expansion of affordable broadband connectivity and mobile solutions will most likely benefit ICT service providers.
