Hewlett-Packard Ltd (HP) is planning to launch a datacentre, a cloud computing infrastructure to host and manage its cloud computing customers, in Bangalore by the end of 2011.

Speaking to the reporters on the sidelines of a conference on cloud computing organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Sanjay Gupta, country sales head, HP, said, construction of the datacentre is on track and it would go on stream by the end of this year.

The datacentre would be the first of its kind from HP in India and would host and manage systems for its customers in cloud computing services. It would deliver services including public and private cloud computing. However, he refused to comment on the details of the project.

Meanwhile, the company is also planning to offer cloud computing services to Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) industry clusters. Plans are afoot to enter into agreements with SMEs across various industries like textiles and automobile sectors to offer cloud computing services based on their specific needs.

“We are in talks with some of the industry clusters in different parts of the country. But, things are yet to be finalised. We see a huge potential in offering cloud computing services for SMEs,” said Gupta.

Businesses in India are adopting cloud faster than it expected and there is a huge opportunity for companies in the segment in the country, he added.
