Information about 4.6 million users of the photo-sharing site Snapchat, has been reportedly compromised and exposed on a website including usernames and phone numbers.
The incidence follows the recent revelations about a potential bug in the security system of the service that could allow hackers to identify usernames with specific numbers.
According to Cnet, the compromised data has been posted to a site called SnapchatDB.info by an individual or a group determined to take down the young site.
After the hack was identified, the alleged website went offline with a note that announced that the account had been suspended due to overuse.
The report said that the phone numbers that were revealed were not quite complete as the site blocked out the last two digits.
Recently, Snapchat acknowledged the potential bug in its security system that would allow a possible attack by which one could compile a database of Snapchat usernames and phone numbers, even as it said that it had taken preventive measures.
Hackers behind SnapchatDB said that Snapchat had not taken sufficient action to protect users' data, and once they started scraping on a large scale, they decided to implement minor obstacles, which were still far from enough as the exploit still persisted.
