National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) today announced the formation of Engineering Council 2013-15 which envisions enabling India as a global and competitive engineering destination in coming years.

Robert Bosch Engineering and Business Solutions President and MD Vijay Ratnaparkhe was announced as the chairman of the Nasscom Engineering Council. The Council will lay emphasis on strengthening the current engineering ecosystem, build centres of excellence and position India as a preferred global destination for engineering services and solutions, Ratnaparkhe told reporters here.

The council will enable appropriate interfaces with other agencies and work towards building the overall ecosystem to develop the indigenous capability with integration of design, prototype, testing, manufacturing, maintenance and services, thus making India self-reliant in the engineering technology space, he said.

To achieve the goal of $37-45 billion revenues by 2020, Nasscom will also explore other geographies such as Asia Pacific and Europe, Ratnaparkhe said. According to the present landscape, the total engineering research and design (ER&D) export from India is $11.2 billion.

According to the NASSCOM-Booz Global Engineering R&D report 2012, the Indian offshore ER&D market is expected to reach $37-45 billion by 2020, driven by an increase in global ER&D spends.
