With an aim to provide free push email services for users of as many handset models as possible, Nokia has launched Nokia Messaging in Gujarat. The facility with free push email service will be as of now available on all compatible Nokia Symbian devices wherein consumers will be required to pay basic data download charges.

"The usage of non-voice services on a mobile handset is increasing gradually. Hence, the attempt at Nokia is to make services like email on mobile available on Nokia handsets at different price points," said Saurav Mukherjee, director - west, Nokia India.

Moreover, as part of the Nokia Messaging Service (NMS) portfolio, Nokia will also offer free Instant Messaging (IM) services, preloaded on select devices. The company also unveiled the Nokia C3, Nokia C6 and Nokia E5, its new range of QWERTY devices to make email, chat and QWERTY devices available at affordable prices.

Quoting a third party survey, Mukherjee said, "There are around 2.3 million mobile email users, while the number is growing at 96 per cent. Moreover, by 2014, the number of mobile email users is expected to touch 129 million. This provides huge scope for mobile handset manufacturers like us to leverage on such services."

According to Mukherjee, Nokia Messaging is a push email UI that aggregates all the consumer email accounts through one client. It can support and mobilise up to 10 email accounts such as Gmail, Yahoo, Rediffmail, Sify and Indiatimes amongst others.
