A senior Airtel official claimed that 90 per cent of the network is now operational and the other services will also be activated shortly.
Airtel mobile subscribers continued to face disruption in their network connection today as the fire gutted a key network tower in central Mumbai yesterday.
"When a disaster of such a magnitude occurs then a lot needs to be done to restore normalcy. We have to reconfigure all our servers, which will take a few days," the official said.
Airtel which has over 2.5 million subscribers in Mumbai has also sent text messages to all their customers assuring them that services will be started soon.
"Incoming calls and text messages have started since last night. The outgoing facilities will also be restored soon," said an Airtel spokesperson here.
The fire at Penninsula Chambers was caused by a short circuit in the basement of the building owned by Tata Power Corporation, disrupting mobile services yesterday.
