Smartphones are at the forefront of driving the digital economy around the globe and also in India. With the average smartphones now  eqipped  with huge inbuilt memory,  Indian smartphone users have taken to using apps like never before.

However, those also expose the users to various kinds of risks — some in their knowledge but many in their ignorance. According to a report by information risk management firm, Arrka, based on the research carried out by its privacy testing lab, Indian Android apps typically ask for 45 per cent more permissions when compared with the global apps which is common in categories like travel booking, shopping and mobile wallets. The report also found that almost 99 per cent of the app owners send the data collected from users to countries outside of India with the US being the primary destination, the country that most of the third-party advertisers  are based out of.
