Tata Interactive Systems (TIS), the e-learning arm of the Tata group, has acquired two companies from Germany's Tertia group.

TIS's acquisition of the two foreign companies - Tertia Edusoft AG of Switzerland and Tertia Edusoft GmbH of Germany - follows the consolidation of its operations in Japan and is expected to enhance the company's global presence.

TIS CEO Sanjaya Sharma said: "This is a significant step for us in our quest for global leadership in e-learning. The acquisition will give us the impetus to pursue high growth opportunities in the European market. Now we can offer an even wider range of products to our customers in Europe."

TIS's operations are spread in the US, the UK, Europe, Australia, Japan, the Middle East and India.

Tertia Edusoft AG is the market leader in Switzerland in the development of regulatory and compliance training solutions for the banking, financial services, insurance, professional services, logistics and telecom sectors.

Tertia Edusoft GmbH's provides management simulations, through their proprietary product line, Topsim - the top simulation product in Germany.

Topsim has been implemented in business education and professional training for more than 20 years in German-speaking countries, and is currently being used by more than 1,000 customers.

Tertia Edusoft GmbH's Topsim range works in synergy with TIS's strong global presence in the simulations segment. TIS has already developed a library of about 200 SimBLs(tm) (simulation-based learning objects) on diverse topics - from management and accounting to psychology and critical thinking - that are being used by more than 60,000 students and 25,000 licensees around the world.

A division of Tata Industries, TIS was established in 1990 and has a global employee base of over 950 multi-disciplinary specialists - a unique mix of project managers, software engineers, instructional designers, content developers, visual designers and animators.
