The world's most popular social networks

Facebook, with 1.8 billion monthly active users, remains the world’s most popular social network, by far, according to a report published on the website of the World Economic Forum.  If the social media giant were a country, it would be much bigger than China. But although it's in several major markets, Facebook doesn’t dominate the social landscape. Social media strategist Vincenzo Cosenza, the author of the January 2017 World Map of Social Networks, found Facebook the leader in 119 of 149 countries analysed, compared to 129 of 137 in January 2016. LinkedIn has moved into pole position in several African countries, while Facebook-owned Instagram is now the most popular social network in some countries. Japan is the only country where Twitter is the most popular platform. In India, Facebook is followed by LinkedIn as the most popular network.
