This one 'spices' up the budget smartphone war

The smartphone war in the budget segment is on. Every other smartphone maker is coming out with affordable gadgets meant to capture the imagination of the youth. Motorola recently launched MotoE, a device which grabbed headlines due to its powerful features and attractive pricing.

So why would Spice stay behind. It's latest Smart Flo Poise Mi 451 features a 1.3 GHz Dual Core processor and is powered by Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2. Is it as good as it sounds to be? Let's find out.

Design: With a 4.5 inch screen, sharp-curved edges and a matte-finish, the phone will certainly be noticed if u carry it around. The Spice Mi-451 is outlined by a thick aluminium strip. You will find two speakers, one in the front just above the display and one adjacent to the camera. The back panel feels plasticky but the phone is comfortable to hold. The power button and the volume rocker rest on the left of the handset.

Performance: The device is responsive and doesn’t lag while shifting between screen views. We did not face any issues with regular games such as Temple Run, Angry Birds, etc. The 1.3 GHz dual core processor is faster than most other phones in this range that have 650 and 800 MHz chips.

Camera: The device sports a 3.2MP rear camera with LED flash. Also you will find a 1.3MP front camera, which can let you click a decent selfie. However, there is not much to write home about in this segment.

Battery: The 1450 mAh battery is something which deserves appreciation. It got through a day's work easily with average internet usage and other things.

Verdict: The Spice Mi451 has been competitively priced at Rs 5,499 and is a decent bet if you wish to go for an entry level smartphone.
