Birender Singh is former Union Minister for Rural Development in the first government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He rejoined the Congress party in April 2024 after nearly 10 years stint with the Bharatiya Janata Party. He had been with the Congress for almost four decades before that. He has also served as a minister in the Congress government in Haryana. He is the grandson of Sir Chhotu Ram.
