Allocation under MGNREGA has been increased from Rs 38,500 crore to Rs 48,000 crore, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announced on Wednesday while presenting the Budget.

The higher allocation for MGNREGA shows that the government expects higher post-demonetisation rural distress next year.

The Budget has been aimed, in part, to mitigate the damage from the government's surprise note ban.
