Watch: A Union Budget that did harm to none

<b>T N Ninan</b> and <b>A K Bhattacharya</b> dissect Budget 2017 to gauge its impact on the economy

Soon after Finance Minister Arun Jaitley completed his Budget 2017 speech, Business Standard Chairman T N Ninan and Editorial Director A K Bhattacharya discussed over live video the provisions announced in the Budget.

Commenting on the impact of the Budget, Mr Bhattacharya said that the Budget had probably done no harm and that the government had stuck to the path of fiscal rectitude. Further, he said that the Budget had introduced some welcome progressive taxation reforms in the form of lower tax rates, particularly for lower-income people. 

Agreeing with Mr Bhattacharya, Mr Ninan said that the message of the Budget was fiscal discipline. The second message of the Budget, according to Mr Ninan, was that the positive effects of demonetisation were beginning to show.
