Sessions court judge D G Murunkar convicted former Police Constable Shatrughna Meshram (40), who was a compulsive drinker, for killing his wife Kavita and awarded life imprisonment to him.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on Meshram, out of which Rs 12,000 each will be deposited in fixed deposit of his two minor daughters.
According to prosecution, Meshram often used to pick fights with his wife accusing her of having an extra-marital affair.
Meshram was arrested by MIDC police and subsequently booked for murder.
The prosecution examined 14 witnesses during the trial.
"We examined 14 witnesses but our star witnesses were his daughters -- aged eight and six -- who were also eye witnesses," said Public Prosecutor Vijay Malankar.
He said most of the witnesses were police personnel and their family members as Meshram used to stay in police colony.
