Bihar Flood

Rising water level of the rivers Ganga and Gandak due to incessant rains in several parts of Bihar over the past few days has triggered severe flood in the Saran district.

The state capital continued to be among the worst affected, some of its parts submerged in water levels rising up to the chest

Torrential rainfall in the catchment areas over a period of a few days in July had flooded more than a dozen districts of north Bihar leading to loss of more than 100 lives

Water level of the swollen Ganga continued to recede at many places except at Kahalgaon in Bhagalpur district where the river is flowing above the danger mark

So far, floods affected 34.69 lakh people in 2,037 villages under 565 panchayats of 74 blocks in the state

Receding trend has been witnessed at Gandhi Ghat, Digha Ghat and Hathidah in Patna

Rains in past few days have raised water level of Ganga threatening inundation of areas such as Patna, Nalanda, Jehanabad and Gaya Districts

Fourteen districts were gripped by recent floods, resulting in death of 95 people in Bihar

Altogether 224 medical teams have been deployed to treat sick people at relief camps and around flooded areas

Several teams of NDRF and SDRF have been pressed into service in the flood-affected districts for rescue and relief works
