China Border Standoff

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh recently inaugurated 44 bridges in the country including eight strategic bridges in Ladakh only. In addition to this, the construction of 45 more bridges in Ladakh will be completed by Border Roads Organisation (BRO) in the next two years. BRO has completed eight bridges in both Kargil and Leh on four strategically important roads close to the Line of Control (LOC) and Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh. In a strong response to China's objection to development of infrastructure on the Indian side of the Line of Actual Control (LAC), New Delhi asserted that Beijing has no locus standi to comment on India's internal matters.

The meeting comes after the Prime Minister had visited Leh earlier this week and addressed soldiers following the June 15 clashes

Early in June, according to the Chinese interpretation of events, Indian guards crossed into China's Donglang regio

The Foreign Secretary stressed that it was a long border and issues could crop up from time to time
