Patidar Quota Agitation

BJP Viramgam candidate Hardik Patel on Friday exuded confidence in winning the ensuing Assembly election stating that the people of Viramgam would vote for him

Hardik Patel was the leader of an agitation demanding reservation for Gujarat Patidar community.

SC had on February 28 granted interim protection from arrest to Patel in the case lodged in August 2015 and had rapped Gujarat Police, saying it cannot sit over a case for five years.

Patels constitute around 15-16 per cent of Gujarat's population and hold influence in at least 60 seats in the state assembly.
